WWE 2K Will Not Appear At E3 2013

wwe2k 2K Games have announced on its official website that it will not have its own booth at E3 2013. However, the publisher confirmed to Polygon that it will still be showing games in meeting rooms during the show. The blog post, which went up earlier this week, announced that the company is currently preparing for its unannounced titles. 2K Games announced the following:
€œAt 2K, we're excited for the new opportunities coming with the next generation of hardware, and are hard at work preparing our announced titles for release. While 2K will not have a booth on the show floor at this year€™s E3 conference, we will have a lot of great news coming your way this spring. While 2K will not have a booth on the show floor at this year's E3 conference, we will have a lot of great news coming your way this spring," the post reads. "Stay tuned for our live gameplay and event broadcasts to see the latest gameplay from our upcoming titles."
This is sad news for WWE fans that were hoping to gain a glimpse of 2k's new franchise. They said their broadcasts will take place on 2K Games' Twitch and YouTube channels. Among the titles listed in its spring lineup are Sid Meier's Civilization 5: Brave New World, XCOM: Enemy Unknown for iOS and more content for Borderlands 2, WWE 2K14 and NBA 2K14. 2K Games declined to comment on what other plans it has for E3. Earlier this year. Take-Two owned 2K announced a multi-year licensing agreement with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) to continue the roll out of WWE video games. With the bankruptcy of THQ, 2K snatched up the rights to the popular game franchise that has been a mainstay for gamers for 15 years now.
€œThe WWE series is a great addition to our stable of triple-A titles, and we're very happy with this exclusive agreement with our new partners,€ said David Ismailer, Chief Operating Officer for 2K, in a statement. €œWe look forward to capturing the excitement of WWE and marrying it with the same commitment to authenticity and entertainment that we give to our NBA 2K and MLB 2K franchises.€
WWE 13 Japanese developer Yukes, which had worked for years on the franchise for THQ, remains at the helm of the new title. And the new game, which was in development when THQ went under, will continue and meet its annual fall release schedule. 2K was also behind NBA 2K13 is the latest installment of that perennial bestseller - The last three games in that franchise have sold over 15 million copies- 2K Sports also has a solid baseball game in Major League Baseball 2K13.
€œ2K€™s reputation for outstanding quality and dedication to authenticity are a perfect fit for WWE,€ added Casey Collins, Executive Vice President, Consumer Products for WWE, in a statement. €œThis new partnership will ensure that WWE continues to be one of the leading video game brands in the world and we look forward to continuing the franchise with the benefit of their expertise across a variety of platforms.€
2k have had their share of flops with an abandoned hockey and being locked out of American football game genre years ago by Electronic Arts. 2K announced that WWE 14, which will likely go under the name WWE 2K14, will be available across all major platforms and distribution channels. Given that PS4 will officially be out this fall, and the next Xbox is expected as well, that means wrestling could make the next gen jump this year. While a Wii U release would mark the first next gen wrestling title for the franchise. We will keep an eye on this story as it develops, both on the E3 and WWE fronts.
