Xbox 720: 10 Reasons It’ll Win Console War Over PS4

8. It Will Probably Be Cheaper

PS3 Who can forget Sony's 2006 E3 press conference when it was announced that the premium 60GB PS3 model would cost a whopping $599, a statement that instantly rendered Sony an industry joke, with the term "$599!" becoming a meme that is now routinely tweeted during E3 as a euphemism for terrible, misguided product announcements. Though the console ended up being a fantastic piece of kit, Sony decided to reach into consumer's pockets to recoup a disproportionate amount of their costs, rather than take the hit and be confident that the product line would keep them in good stead. The premium Xbox 360 model launched for a significantly cheaper price than the PS3, which made it a far more attractive prospect to most gamers, especially parents who would be buying Christmas presents for their kids. Couple with this the fact that the 360 launched a year before, and by the time the PS3 came out, Xbox 360's were available at an even more competitive rate. It's fair to assume after last gen's debacle that, though Sony will be well aware of how poorly the $599 price tag reflected on them, Microsoft will again recognise Sony's agenda - to make the PS4 more affordable - and so probably drop the price of their own in an attempt to trump them.
