Xbox One: 10 Shocking Things You Won't Believe

2. Achievements For Watching TV

So-called "cheev whoring" has gotten to the point that I personally know people who will buy an embarrassing array of games just because they boast an easy 1000G of achievements that can be hoovered up in an hour or two. Microsoft clearly realise the obsessive degree to which people regard achievements, and so, if a recent patent filed by the company is to be believed, they may be rolling out achievements for...watching TV. It's easy to joke about, but seriously, is this where we're at in gaming now? Out Xbox Gamerscore will reward us for clearing out an entire season of Game of Thrones, ascribing points to an even more passive exercise than gaming itself. Plus, it's easy to join the dots and see how this is an incentive for Microsoft themselves; the rewards will no doubt prompt many to keep buying episodes of their favourite show simply so they have a higher gamerscore than their friends. I would suggest that these people need to get out more.
