XCOM Gets Strategy Game Remake

XCOM: Enemy Unknown will be released on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC sometime this fall.

Last year 2K Games announced that they were remaking a game for the XCOM franchise that was received less than favorably when people saw their beloved strategy game had been turned into a first person shooter. Well today we get the announcement that XCOM: Enemy Unknown is in the works this time as a strategy based game being developed by Firaxis the people behind the Civilization franchise. President of Firaxis Games, Steve Martin:
"It's been a dream of ours to recreate X-COM with our unique creative vision. We're huge fans of the original game and it's a once in a lifetime opportunity to re-envision a game that is as beloved as XCOM. We were careful to keep XCOM: Enemy Unknown true to the elements that made X-COM such a revered game while delivering an entirely new story and gameplay experience for both die-hard X-COM fans and newcomers to the franchise."
The announcement was made in this month's Game Informer magazine, and major details about the game are still scarce. However, it was said the game will be released on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC sometime this fall. What this means for the 2k XCOM game is not known; it was delayed from its' original release date of March 2012 and no new release date has been given. The game may eventually end up being cancelled or delayed way into the future, because I just can't see two XCOM games being released the same year. What do you think will the 2K XCOM game be cancelled or will both games still be released? Which one do you think will sell better, the strategy based game or the first person shooter based one?
