Harambe for President!

It's been one hell of a ride, and the best/worst is probably yet to come. Donald J. Trump is going to become President of the United States on January 20th of next year, marking the end of a road filled with scandals, memes, and absurd attempts by both main candidates to "get down with the kids".

An emotional rollercoaster, a high and low-point for Internet culture and a terrifying statement about modern democracy: the election has been all of those things, and is sure to be remembered for decades as one of the weirdest and most divisive periods of 21st century American politics. It can't get much worse, right?

As we still try to come to grips with the fact that a Home Alone 2 cast member is now the incumbent President, here are 20 WTF moments from the 2016 U.S. presidential election...

20. Hillary Talks About "Going Broke"

ABC

In a hilariously tone-deaf interview, Hillary Clinton claimed that she and husband Bill were left "dead broke" in 2001 after leaving the White House due to accruing massive legal costs.

While the interview itself actually took place in mid-2014 before Clinton even formally became a presidential candidate, the Trump camp found just about any opportunity possible to bring the gaffe back out into the open, using it to suggest that Clinton, who is capable of offsetting her expenses by commanding huge fees for speaking engagements, was not dead broke in any way that a regular working-or-middle-class person can understand.

As they say, the rich don't go broke the same way the rest of us do.
