Trash talk, Pokémon puns, and verbal passing of the proverbial torch...

In light of the brand split, it was assumed that SmackDown would be emphasising its in-ring offering while Raw would be the talk-heavy show.

You can see why many—myself included—might have jumped to that conclusion. Monday nights are of course headed up by Stephanie McMahon, never one to shy away from mic time, while her second-in-command, Mick Foley, just so happens to be one of the greatest promos in wrestling history. Add to that the brilliance of the likes of Enzo & Cass and the New Day and you’ve got yourself a roster of some of the most accomplished talkers in the game right now.

But rather than monopolising the show, the verbal component on Raw this week added its own unique touch whilst allowing the rest of the action to flow along nicely without hindrance.

And on top of the names mentioned above, we had input from Kevin Owens—never one to disappoint with his trash talking—some additional in-ring promo segments and of course a brand new line-up at the commentary desk.

It all added up to give us plenty of one-liners to look back on. And this article does just that, as we delve into some of the very best nuggets that were uttered over the course of the evening.

10. “Roman Reigns Lost It For All Of Us”

Roman Reigns has endured quite the downfall since his recent wellness test failure.

On Sunday, he took the pinfall in the WWE Championship match, and then the following night on Raw he was beaten clean by Finn Balor in a number one contender’s bout.

But that wasn’t the only beating he took on Monday—Stephanie McMahon also gave him a verbal drubbing at the top of the show, telling Reigns that “Rollins had it in the bag before you screwed it up” and ensuring the blame sat squarely on his shoulders with the line “Roman Reigns lost it for all of us.”

What made this such a notable line is the sharp U-turn that it represents on the way Roman was being handled just a few weeks ago. Back then he could do no wrong, and yet now he’s being lambasted on WWE TV—admittedly in storyline, but you can’t help but feel that this is all just part of the punishment for his recent off-screen controversy.

Either that or this is the latest attempt at getting the crowd on his side. In which case, I’m slightly embarrassed to say that it may well be working on me…
