10 Amazing Things You Didn't Know About Gerard Way

10. Someone Pulled A Gun On Him When He Was 15

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g5sk6wWwVYU While many of us have lived through near-death experiences, it's difficult to get much closer than being held up at gunpoint. At fifteen years old, it must have been absolutely terrifying. In a 2007 interview with Rolling Stone, Way detailed how memories of the incident actually restored his faith in humanity.

"I always have faith in the world. When I was fifteen, I got held up with a .357 Magnum, had a gun pointed to my head and put on the floor, execution-style. No matter how ugly the world gets or how stupid it shows me it is, I always have faith. The events after 9-11, the moments of tragedy when people show their colors and pull together, have renewed my faith."

Though still shocking, it's not entirely unsurprising when you consider the fact that Way grew up in one of the poorer areas of New Jersey. As of the last few years, almost 200,000 crimes have been reported in New Jersey, with over four-hundred murders being committed.

Way actually details how difficult it was growing up surrounded by so much violence in My Chemical Romance's documentary Life On The Murder Scene, discussing the need to indulge in fantasy in order to cope with so much genuine horror in real life.
