10 Awesome Bruce Springsteen Stories That Prove He's The Boss

10. The Light Of Day And Other Charity Work

Springsteen is involved in a lot of charitable organisations and donates a lot of money to causes in his native New Jersey. While some of this is public knowledge, a lot of it goes unrecognised. It was reported in the Philadelphia Inquirer in 1999 that:

Since 1995, low-income residents of Monmouth County have received $350,000 for home repairs, unaware that their angel was Springsteen until the Newark Star-Ledger reported on his charity, the Foundation.

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Springsteen's charitable efforts. No you might be saying 'yeah, well he should do a lot of charity work because he's a millionaire and he claims to be in touch with the common people' etc. And you'd be right. But one of the coolest things about Springsteen's charity work is that he chooses not to publicise the vast majority of it.

Over the last several years Springsteen has been making appearances at an annual concert for the Light of Day foundation, a charity set up to help those suffering with Parkinson's Disease. Springsteen is by the most high-profile artist to play the New Jersey charity event and tickets sell for upwards of $200. Springsteen can often be seen by himself milling around with fans (most of whom are Springsteen fanatics) during the shows, shaking hands and ordering drinks.

The fact that Bruce can hang out in a small venue with his friends and fans and play obscure songs while doing his bit for charity - that's why he's The Boss.
