Blink-182 have been a dominant force in the pop-punk scene for over two decades. With their honest lyrics, catchy riffs, and accessible melodies, it’s easy to see why the band have been so successful.

Though many hardcore fans love their earlier, more rugged sound, the bulk of the band’s most recognisable material was released in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It was during this period that Blink-182 had a string of hugely successful albums and singles, many of which remain pop-punk anthems to this day.

Whilst there are certainly more experimental bands out there, Blink-182 didn’t shy away from taking risks. This was particularly evident on their self-titled album which featured a more varied roster of songs than any of their previous releases.

They also deserve praise for their consistency. Sure, some records are definitely better than others, but all of their studio albums are worth listening to. Even without founding member Tom DeLonge, the band have continued to put out plenty of great tunes in recent years.

As such, Blink rightly deserve their reputation as one of the best pop-punk bands on the planet…

10. Reckless Abandon – Take Off Your Pants And Jacket (2001)

Take Off Your Pants and Jacket is now a pop-punk classic, and a big reason for this album’s longevity is its consistency. Granted, the singles are the most popular songs, but the album-only tracks are great as well.

‘Reckless Abandon’ is the antithesis of teen angst. DeLonge’s short and sharp vocal delivery cuts through this track with plenty of force. Though the lyrics are blunt and rebellious, they don’t feel cheesy owing to how brutally honest they are.

As for the instrumental, the stripped back, atmospheric introduction soon transitions into a ferocious tempo with lots of great drum fills. Like most Blink-182 songs, both the guitar and the bass are simple, but they provide plenty of power owing to the slick production.

Songs like ‘Reckless Abandon’ exemplify why Blink-182 were so huge at the start of the century. Despite not being a single, it’s one of the best moments on the band’s fourth album.
