10 Best Garage Rock Albums Since 2010

9. Thee Oh Sees - Warm Slime (2010)

Thee Oh Sees Warm Slime Keeping up with Thee Oh Sees is a hard thing to do, but if you can, you'll appreciate every bit of grub you're fed. I mean, they released four albums since 2011 alone, and have a roster of something close to 14 albums to date? Thee Oh Sees' high energy is addictive, which is why you could never write a 10 Best list without even the slightest mention of the band. Hell, most of the bands in this list would credit Thee Oh Sees as a major influence at that. If you've not listened to them before, I would suggest picking up 2009's Help as a starting off point. Warm Slime just made the cut on my list for the last three years. Released in early 2010, it was one of their only records at the time not to be cut on a double cassette by Burger Records. From the get go, this record already set itself aside from the pack. While Warm Slime feels short-laced in seven tracks, it bursts with garage-pop babble and sundrenched melodies. It paces back and forth on highs and lows, especially with opening and title track 'Warm Slime' which borders on psychedelic chewing gum. You'll have no idea what they're saying in the primitive 'Castiatic Tackle' but the anthemic 'I Was Denied' frees you from your worries with it's harmonious 'La la las' and finishing off with amp-exploding feedback to wash listeners away into their carefree world. The creep-city vocals in 'Everything Went Black' fits well with the theme of the record which may not be everyone's favourite Oh Sees pick, but then again, that kind of makes me like it more.
