10 Best Metal Bands Of The Last 10 Years

8. Loathe

Speaking of the future, here’s Loathe.

Let’s be honest with ourselves here and admit that the UK’s contribution to the metalcore craze of the mid-to-late 2000s was pretty lacklustre. While the States had such game-changing and acclaimed titans as Killswitch Engage, Trivium, Converge and Waking the Fallen-era Avenged Sevenfold, we had more controversial, pop/emo-inspired names like Bullet for My Valentine, Bring Me the Horizon and Asking Alexandria. Thank God we had Architects and While She Sleeps, otherwise the UK would've been totally useless.

Luckily, one of the greatest groups to come out of the nu metalcore renaissance, Loathe, buck that trend.

On their 2017 debut The Cold Sun, the monumental quintet take inspiration from everything from Deftones to Slipknot to the Blade Runner soundtrack, making for a metalcore experience that’s as eclectic as it is timeless. Stand-out belters like “The Cold Sun/It’s Yours”, “East of Eden” and “White Hot” resonate with a perfect blend of pummelling tautness and progressive wit that belies just how young these heavy-hitters are.

The icing on the cake is that Loathe are f*cking indomitable live, wasting no time as they steamroll from one volatile hardcore explosion to the next.

This band is just too damn good.
