10 Biggest Metal Albums Still To Come In 2019

9. Lacuna Coil - "Black Anima" (11 Oct)

Cristina Scabbia, Andrea Ferro, and co. will release their first album since 2016's "Delirium" in just a few short months, and if the new single, Layers of Time, is anything to go by, it could be an absolute ripper.

Driven by a battery-like rhythm and Ferro's gruff, bellowed vocals, Layers races towards Scabbia's choruses at a frantic pace. In comes the beauty to contrast the verse's ugliness. By the time it concludes, this djent-adjacent alt-metal track feels like the Lacuna Coil of old without coming off as regressive. It's a great teaser for what might come with "Black Anima."

Speaking to HardDrive Radio in July (h/t Blabbermouth), Scabbia said that "it might sound really cliché if we say that it's gonna be heavier and darker, but this is actually the truth." She goes on, stating that the band "have never been so heavy," and that "it will surprise a lot of people because we experimented a lot of things differently - vocally and musically."

Not that the band have much left to prove after 25 years in the game, but this all sounds very exciting.
