10 Greatest Metal Albums Of The 1980’s

8. Death – Scream Bloody Gore

Scream Bloody Gore was massively influential, and is generally considered responsible for the death metal we’re familiar with today. Taking a fast paced, thrash-esque instrumental style and mixing it with the brutal, unclean vocals of Chuck Schuldiner, this resulted in a game changing signature sound.

The guitar work and bass playing are blisteringly technical and are a pleasure to listen to, standing testament to the talent of Schuldiner, who recorded both the bass, and the guitar work on the album.

He also wrote every song, and provided his aforementioned vocals, proving to be a Jack of all trades, and a master of metal.

Particular highlights of the album are the songs Evil Dead, Scream Bloody Gore, and Zombie Ritual, which are painfully underrated, and deserve a mention in the same breath as any of the great death metal anthems of the modern era.

This is the essential death metal album of the 1980’s.
