10 Greatest Modern Rock Songs About Getting Drunk

9. Frank Turner - "Recovery"

Dropkick Murphys Bagpipes
Xtra Mile

"Blacking in and out in a strange flat in East London
Somebody I don't really know just gave me something
To help settle me down and to stop me from always thinking about you"

Frank Turner joined the proud tradition of writing surprisingly cheery songs about something as depressing as potential alcoholism, though he at least decided to take a much more level-headed approach to it.

After beginning the song in the middle of a blackout, Turner weaves his way through the finer aspects of getting plastered in your 30s. How often should you go out to the bars for all-night benders once you're at an age where society deems you a full-fledged adult?

Uh...however often still allows for you to be a fully functional adult. Duh.

But as with any drinking song worth its salt, "Recovery" is really about a failed relationship, which was probably kicked off by said drinking issues.

"Recovery" finds the aging punk rocker-turned-singer songwriter in familiar ground, rattling off lyrics at a mile a minute before bludgeoning listeners with some heavy guitar blasts.
