10 Heaviest Slipknot Anthems So Far

7. The Devil In I

5: The Gray Chapter was 2014’s monumental Slipknot release in memory of their late bassist, Paul Gray. There had been six years since the band last produced an album, which was understandable given the terrible loss that they had suffered.

Not only had Gray been a founding member, he’d also been a massive contributor to the writing of Slipknot’s music. New writing was also stunted by the departure of the band’s original drummer, Joey Jordison.

Whilst Gray was sorely missed, this album hit shelves to prove that Slipknot still had what it takes to dominate the metal genre. Reminiscent of their first two records, The Gray Chapter was the perfect mix of old and new, with deathly riffs meeting both barking and melodic vocal styles.

A terrific example of this new concoction is The Devil In I. The song combines a slow, thunderous riff with emotionally gripping lyrics, heavy yet melodic vocals and a catchy overall sound that can remain in your head for hours. Released as a single with a suitably horrifying video, The Devil In I is one of many songs on this album that provide a fitting tribute to this dearly missed metal king.
