10 Metal Bands That Have Never Made A Bad Album

8. System Of A Down

With every one of their five albums having been produced by the legendary Rick Rubin, it would be a crime if System of a Down had made a bad record. The band’s first two albums – System of a Down and Toxicity – are cornerstones of the controversial yet hugely popular nu metal movement, which hits its peak from 1996 to 2003. Providing such massive radio hits as “Sugar”, “Toxicity”, “Aerials”, “Spiders” and the inescapable “Chop Suey!”, this duology quickly made System of a Down the rock band of the day.

Capitalising both on their sudden success and the buzz caused by a tonne of their demos leaking online, Steal This Album! dropped in 2002, mixing leftovers from the Toxicity sessions with new material to create a punky, mathematically wondrous third disc.

System of a Down wouldn’t release another album until 2005, but when they did, it was so massive that it was divided into two halves: Mezmerize and Hypnotize. Continuing the band’s hook-filled, rampant style, these two discs spawned even more hits for this Armenian-American quartet.

System of a Down, sadly, haven’t released an album since, although their 2010 reunion and regular festival headlining spots in recent years have caused the rumour mill to work overtime.
