10 Most Underrated Britpop Albums

2. Marion – The Program

When it comes to bands who never got the credit they deserved, they don’t come much more overlooked than the brilliant Macclesfield outfit Marion. While debut album This World and Body managed to break the Top 10, their second album didn’t even chart.

Not only was the record a commercial flop, but it was also critically panned in some circles too. However, don’t let any of that put you off listening to this masterclass in measured alternative rock. Produced by The Smiths legend Johnny Marr, The Program is simply one of those albums that should’ve sent this band into the stratosphere.

After just two records, the group split, with frontman Jaime Harding’s problems with heroin playing a big role in the break-up. But they did leave us with two brilliant albums, with this underrated gem being the choice cut. Oh, and “The Powder Room Plan” is one of the best Britpop songs you’ve never heard – seriously.
