10 Popular Music Acts That Leave Me Utterly Cold

Bono In a recent interview, ex-Smiths and Modest Mouse guitarist Johnny Marr confessed that he really didn€™t €˜get€™ the hairy and theatrical rock gods Queen. This is a more common reason for not liking an act than you would think - it€™s possible to be able to appreciate the musical merits of an artist, and accept that there a smorgasbord of reasons that they are so massively popular, and still have them leave you as cold as a snow leopard that€™s forgotten to pay its heating bill. In that spirit, here are 10 acts that are massively popular in their own right, but leave me feeling no emotion other than utter indifference towards them.

10. Pink Floyd

dark side of the moon pink floyd The Dark Side of the Moon is a decent album-decent, no more, no less. I can see why they sold millions of records, but I€™ve listened to The Wall and Wish You Were Here umpteen times in a vain attempt to find something, ANYTHING, that I can make a connection with, and I struggle to this day. The Floyd are probably always destined to be an act that I find it easy to admire from afar, but hard to love- and I blame Thom Yorke. Radiohead were my favourite band in my teenage years, and I will always rate Ok Computer as a record that out-Floyds Floyd. Quite simply, and utterly unfairly, anything that I€™ve listened to by Pink Floyd pales in comparison. And let€™s face it, 80% of The Wall was humdrum filler, right?

I am a freelance writer, currently residing in Newcastle Upon Tyne, England. I was raised by wolves in the woodlands of Northumberland, but am still posher than Colin Firth having dinner with The Queen. I write all of my pieces by swallowing a cocktail of scrabble tiles and vodka, then regurgitating them over my jotter. Hope this explains the typos.
