10 Song Collaborations That Happened By Accident

Sometimes, musical magic happens almost unintentionally...

Whenever big-name musicians collaborate, it's normally a big event for fans. While each of these acts could put out quality material on their own, they decided to use their collective forces and put together tracks that would become modern classics. So that means they meticulously thought through every detail right? Well...it's not always that straightforward.

In fact, some of the most famous collaborations of all time came together after a complete spur-of-the-moment decision. There may be some preparation beforehand, but for the most part these acts came together by just being at the right place at the right time. Whether it was from running into each other on tour, hanging out writing songs, or just recording in the same studio, the stars all seemed to align in the right position to get these musical titans together in one place. And what they creating was absolute ear-candy.

Some of these collabs worked out so well that the artists would end up doing it again later down the road with either full projects or off-and-on reunions. There may have been no real rhyme or reason behind why these artists came together, but many fans around the world are thanking the musical gods that they did.

10. Peter Gabriel Goes From Country To Baroque - Don't Give Up

For the better part of the 70's, Peter Gabriel had been making some of the most inventive prog rock ever made. Sure, he may not have been seeing that much major success, but tracks like "Solsbury Hill" and "Games Without Frontiers" proved he had the staying power to last beyond his work in Genesis. When he got to making So though, the hits really came coming with gems like "Sledgehammer" and "In Your Eyes."

While these tracks were amazing in their own right, "Don't Give Up" stands as one of Gabriel's most potent musical moments, as he offers a glimmer of hope to those who are left unemployed. Though the inclusion of Kate Bush sells the song, the original idea was far less conventional than you might think.

Originally Gabriel had wanted to contact Dolly Parton so she could sing the famous hook of the song, but the phone lines remained silent. With the studio time being wasted, Gabriel came back to Bush's tender voice, which was what the track had needed all along, as she croons like a comforting friend trying to ease your mind. There may have been struggles throughout this record, but Kate Bush's voice can assure anyone that the hard times will be over soon.
