10 Songs That Don't Mean What You Think

10. Summer Of 69 (Bryan Adams)

What You Think It Means: It's Bryan Adams' slick hit about growing up in suburban Kingston, Ontario in Canada and forming a high school band he hoped would make him a superstar. Throughout the track, there are hazy memories of how the summer of 1969 means the world to Adams because it reminds him of a time in his life he can never get back.

What It's Actually About: Sex, and lots of it.

This is arguably the worst-kept secret on this list. By now, most people probably have an inkling that Bryan wasn't talking about high school bands or hazy summer days spent rehearsing at all. Nah, he was too busy singing about the '69' sexual position and how fond he is of it instead.

The real meaning makes more sense when realising that Adams was coming up for 10 years old in the summer of 1969. Therefore, he couldn't have been forming garage bands or any of that good sh*t. Age has nothing to do with it; Bryan's hit is about sex as an adult, not a specific year.
