Musician and director Rob Zombie delivered a gory spectacle in 2005 with his weird horror/crime/thriller mash-up The Devil’s Rejects. Serving as the spiritual successor to his previous motion picture House of 1000 Corpses, the movie follows three ragtag criminals as they attempt to escape the law.

While the movie is patchy in places, it makes up for those moments with a thrilling and intense climax – one which sees the psychotic trio finally coming face-to-face with the police. The ensuing scene depicts the anti-heroes driving head first towards the officers, accompanied by Lynyrd Skynyrd’s soaring epic ‘Free Bird.’

The song really ramps up the tension, and actually makes the viewer reflect on everything that came before. Thanks to the song’s defiant message, the on-screen action increases ten-fold. Ultimately, the movie ends with bullets penetrating the bizarre bunch, but their unwavering conviction was perfectly captured by this iconic track.
