10 Stupidly Fun Toys Every Musician Needs

Mastered the six-string? How about the MicroKorg or the Keytar? 'Bout time you got stuck in then!

Fiiofjfio Music is an art form. It takes years, sometimes decades of study, practice and more study to achieve the best with your instrument of choice, often eschewing the luxuries of friends or loved ones while you attempt to nail that one movement or riff you just can't get initially down. Music is a labour of love, the more you love it, the more labour it requires to get good and stay good. You don't get anywhere in the music world by procrastinating. Fun as it may be, being a musician is hard work. Well, not always hard work in a negative sense, depending on if you embrace the various toys out there. Yes, making music can be made a lot easier and - let's face it - a lot more fun by making use of a plethora of extras available to the casual musician. These can range from the simple, such as effects pedals for electric guitars, all the way up to digital monstrosities that will destroy the concept of a coherent soundwave and leave you breathless and broken on the floor. Whether you play rock, pop, punk, indie, dance or dubstep (which many are still sure is the sound of an old dial-up modem in a blender) there are plenty of ways you can screw with your sound and have a whale of a time doing it. When you have toys, musical ability becomes a secondary thought, after all, knowing how to make some crackers noises fit in a song is worth a lot more than knowing the difference between a Csus7 and a Cadd9 chord. Here's 10 of the best toys any musician could hope to own.

I am a man of many interests. I am a passionate gamer, running my own YouTube channel (The Gadget Addicts) showing off the best of modern gaming in the form of Let's Play videos. I am an ardent musician, having been a guitarist for the past 13 years. I am also a massive geek, I adore science fiction and fantasy films and TV shows and am trying to work up the courage to start writing a novel. If I can ever think of a good story to tell... I live with my wife in the North East of England and own a belligerent little black cat.
