10 Things You Didn't Know About Marina Diamandis

She's actually not a Primadonna at all.

Better known to fans by her stage name Marina and the Diamonds, Marina Diamandis always knew she'd be famous. Despite several unsuccessful auditions in her run up to finding fame (including opportunities for the stage musical The Lion King and a boy band put together by Virgin records), the singer of Welsh/Greek heritage is now a household name, and has recently released her third studio album, titled Froot. Known for her tuneful social commentary and wacky fashion styles, Marina's stunningly powerful voice tackles themes ranging from relationships ending, to the shallow side of fame and feminism. She's been compared to Catherina Zeta Jones and Shakira in looks, and also been stated to be a millennial Kate Bush - although she's vocal about the fact that she doesn't want to be compared to others in both her music and in interviews. Originally, in the run up to the release of her debut album The Family Jewels, Marina was convinced the whole thing was going to be a failure, claiming she was neurotic, and scared of the fame hurtling towards her. But then she wrote the song 'Oh No', admitted to herself that it was a hit, and realized she was probably going to be really famous. Not in a big-headed way - she's just not a fan of false modesty. The singer-songwriter continues to write thoughtful music, although appears to have toned down her anger at society in her third album, seeming more considering of the roles of men and women in society as opposed to mad about gender stereotypes (which she certainly was in the beginning). She's become a female role model without trying, and a musical voice for feminists. So without further ado, here are ten facts about Marina that you might not already know.

I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
