10 Weird Christmas Songs You Probably Won't Hear On The Radio

8. Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer €“ Elmo & Patsy

You probably won't hear this song on the radio this Christmas, however you probably won't want to either. This novelty country song was originally performed by husband and wife duo Elmo and Patsy Trigg Shropshire in 1979 (the version above is the remixed cut.) The darkly humorous subject matter takes a sinister turn as the Shropshires sing "I've warned all my friends and neighbours/ Better watch out for yourselves/€They should never give a license/ To a man who drives a sleigh and plays with elves." So that's Santa being cast in a poor light too. The moral of the song is clearly "don't drink too much eggnog." In fact, just don't drink eggnog.
