15 Best Heavy Metal Songs Of 2016 (So Far)

2. Nails - You Will Never Be One Of Us

Following their phenomenal sophomore album Abandon All Life in 2013, Extreme metallers Nails are on the precipice of releasing their latest collection of sound shards entitled You Will Never Be One Of Us. If the LP follows up on this ridiculously heavy title-track, 2016 may be the year that Nails put other metal bands to shame.

The song sees the group achieve more in just over a minute than most bands can manage at quadruple the length. They pack a lot in, starting off with a thrash-centric noise blast before settling on one of the heaviest and most thunderous refrains you€™re likely to hear all year €“ it€™s clear Nails are back in a big way.

The track is a no-no€™s list of modern day production techniques with everything turned up to the max, helping to create an almost frightening level of explosiveness in the sound. Frontman Todd Jones barks and screams like his life depends on it, almost clipping the sound levels at several points during its vicious duration. It€™s this ramshackle approach to production that makes the track sound so dangerous and exciting, and more importantly, captures the fierceness of their live shows.

Just sheer intensity from the first second to the last, this adrenaline-fueled, whiplash-inducing smasher shows yet again why Nails are the heaviest and most direct metal act of the current decade.
