Infected Mushroom
Perfecto

Infected Mushroom is one of the most well-known and successful names in the electronic dance music (EDM) scene. The duo of producers Erez Eisen and Amit Duvdevani started off in the Goa trance and psychedelic trance genres, and have since added elements of other genres of music into their collection of impressive songs and tracks.

Both Eisen and Duvdev have immense training in classical music, which is an element that's featured regularly in their musical work. Though they have experimented with a lot of different genres of music over the years, from trip-hop to industrial, to electro house, to dubstep, there are a few essential elements to IM's signature sound that make them a unique musical act in today's electronic music scene. Trippy and 'weird' sound effects, elongated 'rises' that build up each track, inhuman voices and incredibly sharp and metallic synth sounds are abound in Infected Mushroom's work.

Over the years, IM's popularity has grown from a relatively unknown genre to a worldwide phenomenon. Their music has been acclaimed both critically and commercially, they're still on a seemingly never-ending live tour that sees them travel around the world and to many high-profile music festivals, and in 2007, they were ranked #9 in DJMag's Top 100 DJs list. These are but a few testaments to their skills as musical producers.

The subsequent pages will present IM's fifteen greatest musical compositions. From their first album in 'The Gathering' to 'Army of Mushrooms' released in 2012, these are the bands most outstanding tracks.

15. U R So F*cked

This was IM’s first attempt at dubstep, and needless to say, it worked. They managed to hit all the key spots, most notably the traditional ‘wub wub’ sounds that dominate the genre. Being dubstep, this track is filled with sharp and attack-heavy sounds, yet it still retains certain Infected Mushroom elements, such as ‘ominous’ sounding strings, heavily-synthesized leads, and a strong rise that leads into a heavy crescendo.

And in this particular case, that crescendo sounds like something you’d hear at a Skrillex concert: heavy bass drops, the sharpest-possible leads, and a raspy voice screaming ‘FUUUUUUUUUU’ as loud as possible. IM must’ve enjoyed a lot of success with this track, because not only has it been remixed by several other artists, but the band’s more recent albums have followed in this track’s footsteps, adopting even more experimental elements and styles that are more akin to dubstep and electro than they are to psychedelic music.

Though a controversial entry to be sure, especially for the Infected Mushroom ‘purists’, this track shows that, with enough patience and dedication, one can break into pretty much any musical genre, no matter how inexperienced they might be in it.
