20 Best Hard Rock & Heavy Metal Guitar Riffs Of 2016

19. Lamb Of God - "The Duke"

The lead single of the EP off the same name, "The Duke" showcased a new side to the usually abrasive growlers Lamb of God.

Heavy yet also subdued and reflective, the track is a loving tribute to one of the act's fallen fans. But it's also undeniably powerful, especially in that opening riff from duelling axe-wielders Willie Adler and Mark Morton.

Starting out as clean and cryptic, the part soon descends into a head-banging, mid-paced powerhouse. It may not be as complex as some of the entries to follow, but it's doubtlessly engaging, earning it a spot on this list.
