20 Best Metal Albums Of Summer 2017

17. Accept - The Rise Of Chaos

Ever since their return from an agonisingly lengthy hiatus in 2010, classic German metallers Accept have been on a surprising and continually impressive hot streak, with their three post-comeback records, Blood of the Nations (2010), Stalingrad (2012) and Blind Rage (2014), all respectively debuting to a hugely positive reception from old fans, newcomers and reviewers alike.

The melodic quintet's latest release, the brand new Rise of Chaos, continues to keep this trend alive. In a manner not too dissimilar to the band's beloved breakthrough Balls to the Wall (1983), Accept's fifteenth overall record is one that bridges the vocals and sing-alongs of AC/DC with the powerful riffage and instrumentation of Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. Cuts like the title track, the immense introductory "Die by the Sword" and the gigantic "No Regrets" leap off of the vinyl and into the ear perfectly, with their sheer, infectious energy and catchiness second-to-none.

The only reason that The Rise of Chaos fails to chart higher on this list is that it is an experience that is very much Accept doing what Accept does. But the twist is that the band does what it does amazingly well, making for a simple yet fun album that deserves to cling onto a slot on this list.
