20 Most Underrated Nu-Metal Anthems

19. Saliva – Click Click Boom

Nu-metal originators Korn not only invented a new musical style but their lyrics were poignant and personal as well, touching on emotionally charged issues at will. Fast forward seven years and (like most popular genres) the sound had been watered down quite a bit to grab the broader listener, with lyrics that were more frat boy than sad boy. Memphis, Tennessee’s Saliva fall into the latter category it has to be said.

That’s not to say that it’s a bad thing because what songs like ‘Click Click Boom’ may lack in originality or lyrical weightiness, they make up for in sheer drive alone. The carefree attitude of the track is also one of its greatest strengths, allowing the freewheeling guitar refrain and the southern drawl of frontman Josey Scott to merge seamlessly. It’s hard not to nod along to the infectious singalong of the chorus, even if the track does plod along in a generic manner at times.

It’s nothing life changing but it’s a fine example of the genre at its riff-crunching best.
