20 Unsigned Metal Bands Everyone Needs To Hear

11. Shokran

They may have a morbid fascination with Egyptian imagery, but melodic metal quartet Shokren actually hails from far further east, pumping out sonic vitality from the cold heart of Moscow.

And from all outside appearances, the Russian rockers may just seem like your standard melodic metal band. Albeit one that just has a slight fascination with the ancient Egyptian, letting the culture permeate not only their artwork but also their music.

However, these guys also have a slight whiff of prog about them, as they specialise in eight-string guitars and six-string basses to generate truly penetrating, low tones.

Riding the line between the rule-breaking and the catchily sing-along, Shokran is perfect for fans of melodic acts like Bullet for My Valentine and Killswitch Engage who are feeling the urge to be a little more adventurous.

I write for Metal Hammer, Prog and WhatCulture. I don’t have Facebook or Twitter, so you’ll just have to call me a stupid cuck to my face.
