25 Best Metal Albums Of The Decade

24. Agalloch - Marrow Of The Spirit (2010)

The diversity of black metal is such that the first two entries on our list sound nothing alike but could both fall under the same vague classification, though this barely does Agalloch justice.

Marrow of the Spirit is often more of a folk record than a metal album. Violins, cellos, and pianos are everywhere, creating softer, gentler tones to contrast with the blasts of metal. Doomy, nocturnal, and downright epic at points, it isn't the finest entry in the band's discography (that'd be 2006's Ashes Against the Grain), but still showed real signs of a progression at a time when Agalloch could've coasted on formulae.
