5 Bands That Could Be The New Dillinger Escape Plan

3. Destrage

Italy is very quickly becoming the sleeper scene for heavy music as the years go on. Having previously been associated with the more "lighter" side of power, symphonic and gothic metal genres (see Rhapsody of Fire, Lacuna Coil and Vision Divine) they have produced some of the more exciting extreme metal bands over the last few years, including Disarmonia Mundi, Fleshgod Apocalypse, and now Destrage.

With the surprise 2014 hit of Are You Kidding Me? No., attention turned to the Milan-based quintet, earning them spots on With Full Force and Bloodstock bills in 2015. Their goofball-but-not-quite-comedy-metal humour comes out in spades, with "Home Made Chili Delicious Italian Beef", "Smell You Later Fishy Bitch", "Waterpark Bachelorette", and "Blah Blah" occupying their setlists, but what they lack in lyrical awareness, they make up for with surgically-precise musicianship, balancing shredding, blast beats and whirlwind vocals expertly.

They are far from limiting themselves either. Their 2009 debut falls under the strategy of playing as fast and angry and possible without looking back, whilst 2010's followup got injected with some much-needed structure, then the 2014 album decided to go down an even more cohesive path again (a formula that worked tremendously).

2016's A Means to No End is as a whole, a more melodic affair, focusing more on vocalist Paolo Colavolpe vocal hooks which are just dripping in SikTh vibes. Honestly, this is earworm metal if nothing else.
