5 Incredible Pop-Rock Albums That You Shouldn’t Have Missed In The 2010s

5. Maroon 5 €“ Hands All Over

Hands All Over

Maroon 5 are the masters of using rock influence to make€well€pop music. Let€™s ignore Overexposed for a second and try and concentrate on a time when Adam Levine€™s voice hadn€™t been auto-tuned. You might have to turn off the radio though. Payphone and One More Night won€™t agree with me here.

But, believe it or not, there was a Maroon 5 before Moves Like Jagger and, in spite of their latest output, they actually showed some amazing rock influence in their music. Their debut Songs About Jane remains one of my all-time favourite albums. It carried with it a sleazy soul influence that, combined with some gritty alt rock guitars, made for a perfect debut. It perfectly spun a web of romanticism; we were carried through love-sick ballads such as She Will Be Loved all the way through to sexy crooning in songs such as Shiver. Now, in spite of what I€™ve said, I did enjoy Overexposed€but there was a better era for the band; and it ended with Hands All Over.

Hands All Over took the signature soul and alt rock style of the band and infused it with a little funk. What we got was one of the catchiest pop-rock albums I€™ve ever come across. From the excellently energetic lead single (that should have dominated charts) Misery to the bittersweet, heartbroken beauty of Just A Feeling; this album had success written all over it.

But Misery didn€™t really take off. And few radio stations picked up on the other singles. Despite moderate sales, the band was disappointed in the release. Later they re-released it with a brand new dance track featuring Christina Aguilera, Moves Like Jagger. The rest is history€
