Layne Staley founded Alice in Chain’s in Seattle, Washington in 1987 with guitarist Jerry Cantrell. Originally a percussion player, he discovered a passion for singing in his teens. He served as lead singer and co-songwriter for Alice in Chains. His vocals were influenced by Ozzy Osbourne and Alice Cooper In a Punk Rock influenced Grunge sound -- Layne stood out from his contemporaries.

After finding great commercial success, by the mid 1990s Layne Staley grew disinterested in making music. He would ultimately die in 2002 after years of substance abuse issues. Like Kurt Cobain, his death at any early age only helped cement Staley’s influence on Grunge.
