5 Reasons LPs Are Better Than Downloads

A meticulously-ordered shelf of vinyls vs. a thoroughly-detailed iTunes list... where do you stand?

Long playing records €“ they€™re like the sword and shield of a hipster. They€™re chunky, expensive, beautifully made, and incredibly awesome. Since their renaissance in the 21st century, walking up to someone and saying €œWant to come back to my place? I€™ve got a huge record collection€ is almost an acceptable pick-up line. However, compared to downloads, they do lag behind in some ways €“ most notably the immediacy of the latter often trumps the need to even possess a record. But with that in mind, LP€™s can still be seen as a refreshing tonic in today€™s digital world. The look, the feel, the smell of an LP automatically wins over downloads €“ very often because downloads have none of these. Unless of course you€™re downloading so much music that your computer starts to heat up and melt the desk its sitting on. But ultimately, do LP€™s beat downloads on every level? Well, to be honest €“ yes. Of course LP€™s are better than downloads. So with these initial ideas in mind, let€™s take a look at exactly why you€™re better off having LP€™s in your house rather than a computer filled with digitised music.
