On Martin Luther King, Jr. Day we look at five songs inspired by King, and how his legacy has left an imprint on music history. King was a revolutionary, defined by his ideals and his I Have A Dream speech for some, but there was deeper meaning to him. He understood the economic and social problems in America and he inspired people. He inspired every single human being on this earth and his enduring legacy should be all of us working better to cure those problems he saw in 1960 and that still exist today. King inspired ordinary folk, campaigning for civil rights and expanding his focus to poverty and the Vietnam War before he assassinated on April 4th 1968. To this day his ideals are still carried within people, and today we celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Although only a holiday in the US, it would be foolish to pass up the opportunity to look at some of the music the man inspired. Much the the man himself, this music speaks from the heart, is passionate, and the five songs all speak about many things close to King's ideals and messages. There are so many songs inspired by King it is hard to pick just five to focus on, but some honourable mentions are Queen One Vision, Marvin Gaye's version of Abraham, Martin and John, They Killed Him by Kris Kristofferson and King Holiday by the King Dream Chorus and Holiday Crew. There are of course loads more, but for now here are our top fives songs inspired by Martin Luther King Jr.
