9 Greatest Hoaxes In Music

9. The Beatles Recorded An Entire Album Under A Pseudonym

Everyone knows who The Beatles are, but what about Klaatu?

In the middle of the 70s, an album titled 3:47 EST was quietly released by Capitol Records (the same record label that favoured The Beatles). The sound of the album was strikingly similar to that of The Beatles, and it even featured vocals that sounded incredibly like Paul McCartney and John Lennon. Though the album was credited to a band named Klaatu, much of its creation was shrouded in mystery. For a start, there were no producer credits, no song-writing credits and no names of the band members anywhere on the record (nor were there any pictures). It's believed that the Klaatu hoax was started by excited fans, journalists and DJs who happened to stumble upon the record, and it didn't take long for things to get blown wildly out of proportion. Of course, Capitol Records were happy enough to sit back and watch everything unfold naturally €“ sales of the album sky-rocketed as the hoax developed and more and more people were roped in. In the end, though, Klaatu turned out to be nothing more than a genuine rock band from Canada. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9URM_5R-vWk
