9 Weirdest Marketing Gimmicks Ever Used To Sell Music Albums

9. Katy Perry Triggers Bio-Security Alert

For deluxe editions of her 2013 album, Prism, Katy Perry included packets of flower seeds in the packaging as a way for her fans to, in Perry's words, "spread the light." The idea was, presumably, to listen to "Roar" on a boombox while digging in the garden; ya know, making the world a more beautiful place while making your heart a more beautiful place. But Australia put a firm stop to the importing of inner and outer beauty when they deemed Prism a biosecurity concern, since the seed paper twas coming from outside the country and could possibly spread weeds or diseases that weren't already in Australia. Copies of Prism were basically treated as the Outbreak monkey to Australia's Department of Agriculture and all those flowers were dead to rights before they even had a chance to bloom.
