Arctic Monkeys' Humbug - 10 Years On: Ranking The Tracks From Worst To Best

8. Dangerous Animals

There are those who have dismissed Turner's lyrical content, particularly on earlier albums, as sexist and bordering on misogynistic. An ill-founded, short-sighted accusation for sure, all things considered. "I Bet You Look Good On The Dancefloor" is hardly the text on which all modern-day feminism is founded, sure. But is there really so much harm in detailing the innermost, lust-filled thoughts of a horny teenager on a night out?

"Dangerous Animals" once again tackles the trope of the alluring female seen from afar and actually bestows power on such a worthy and titillating protagonist, and who earns superiority from the lofty intelligence, careful charm and awe-inspiring sensuality on display.

The sexuality on show in "My Propeller" careens through into the album's third track, as the narrator, completely enthralled by his muse, spreads his lust all over the super-charged guitars and moody inflections that bear the unmistakeable, unshakeable influence of QOTSA's Josh Homme in the production booth.
