Fresh from the release of their brilliant debut album, Flux, Norwegian noiseniks 22 take their deserved place as our August band of the month. http://youtu.be/rN6wq1LgrzE Flux was reviewed on Whatculture and you can read it here, so go read it now. It makes sense. It also won't be hard to understand why they're our featured band, either.

For people who might not have heard about you guys before, can you give us some history about the band? How did you first have the idea of forming 22? And how long have you been together as a band?

Hey. The concept for €˜22€™ originated with our guitar player Magnus as he has always had a big attraction towards the number 22. It has followed him his whole life, and when we started making music together the number came up naturally as our bandname. We have been creating music together four years now, two in the current line-up, and the idea came when Magnus and I became tired of seeing boring bands on stage and wanted to make a band that we ourselves would want to see on stage.

How many releases have you got out there? Are you signed?

We signed with Best Before Records in March of 2011 and have released two EP's €˜Plastik€™ and €˜Kneel Estate€™ and we also just released (last week) our full length debut double disc album €˜FLUX/The Pool Sessions€™ through Best Before Records.

What€™s next for you guys? Any tours planned?

We want to play as many live shows as we can, but since we have played ridiculous amounts the last year, we are now using a lot of time to create new music. Hoping for a UK tour in the near future, we miss our many friends in the UK!

Who are your favourite bands? Main influences?

We are influenced by many bands like Meshuggah, Refused, Dillinger Escape Plan, Kate Bush, Radiohead, the list goes on... Our favourite new bands are bands we have met and hooked up with over the last couple of years. We like nice people :) Among these are Arcane Roots, Mutiny On The Bounty and Rumble In Rhodos to name a few. If you don€™t know these bands, you should check €˜em out!

If you could describe your sound, what would it be?

Its crispy, crunchy, juicy and tastes sweet. Just like a good chocolate bar.

Do you have any funny band stories?

Recently, we missed our boat from England to Denmark on our way home after one month of touring in the UK. We had to take a later boat to the Netherlands and drive for 10 hours the next day to make the ferry from Denmark to Norway. When we started to drive (I'm the only person who drives in 22 so I was dead tired) our drummer was pounding whiskey in the back and being a crazy drunk. We realized that we had forgotten to set our clocks one hour back and were suddenly very late for the next ferry as well. Our drummer was being sick as hell in the backseat throwing up and other horrid things but we could only afford to stop to refuel twice. The smell was awful. We made the ferry by ten minutes...

Favourite gig you€™ve played so far? Favourite bands to play with?

We had a really great tour with Arcane Roots from the UK. Love those guys and they are still very good mates. Also played and hooked up with an amazing band from Luxembourg called Mutiny On The Bounty. Great guys, incredible music!

Do you drink on stage? Or do you prefer to play sober?

We never drink before or during a gig. The music requires full soberness and it€™s important to let the music provide the buzz itself. We learned really early on, drinking can wait until after the show...

What do you guys do outside of 22?

We produce music individually, make Norwegian chocolate and ice cream, mix drinks and generally enjoy life!!
