7. Volta

Volta is not a bad album by any means. It is simply a collection of great songs without a strong sense of connection between them.

Bjork returns to the simple idea of wanting to have fun on an album and it is certainly a fun listen. It seems like the next logical step in the way of Debut and Post, in terms of its emotion and its accessibility.

On highlights such as "Earth Intruders," the industrial quality of Homogenic is combined with the bouncier aspects of Debut and Post. Dark beats join a chorus of horns for an exciting listen.

"Wanderlust" ultimately highlights the disjointed quality of the album by discussing the desire to always be looking for something new despite a possibility of never finding it. This period of Bjork's career is marred by this desire, which proves successful in the case of "Earth Intruders" and unsuccessful in a long series of other cases.
