Jimmy Eat World: 5 Essential Tracks

4. Futures

Jimmy Eat World saw massive mainstream success with their release "Bleed American" which was later renamed simply "Jimmy Eat World." After several extremely successful singles many wondered how the band would follow that album up. Jimmy Eat World answered with another great album in the form of "Futures." Once again the band managed to create an album that was received with open arms by critics and fans alike. This is an album that is a great testament to the band's desire to move forward and that mentality is perhaps showcased better nowhere than the title track. Opening the album with a massive riff Jimmy Eat World manages to catch your attention right away and immediately you know you're in for something special. The band manages to create an upbeat song that immediately lets you know that they have moved on from their previous material but aren't neglecting it. Through the verses you get something fresh and new from the band but during the chorus it seems a lot more familiar. Jim Adkins signature voice is perhaps never better than when he sings "Say hello to good times, trade up for the fast ride." Creating a new vibe worked wonders for this song but by the time you get to the bridge it's a nice throwback to the signature sound of the Clarity era. When it comes to songs that blend modern Jimmy Eat World with classic Jimmy Eat World, this song does it perfectly.
