Lou Reed: His 10 Best Tracks

9. Vicious

'Vicious', from Reed's definitive 'Transformer' album, is much more reflective of his signature sound; wild music and blunt lyricism with tame, apathetic delivery. The underproduced, over fuzzed guitar that would inspire players for generations to come, such as Joey Santiago of The Pixies and J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. is ever present, specifically in the chaotic lead fills.

8. I'm Waiting For The Man

One of the many Velvet Underground Songs that Reed took with him after his departure from the band, 'I'm Waiting For The Man' showcases the songwriting that made Reed and the band provocative. Shadowed by downbeat, simple rock grooves, the song tells the story of a man on a journey to uptown New York to purchase $26 worth of Heroin. 'Up to Lexington 125, feeling sick and dirty, more dead than alive'.
