Metallica: 10 Criminally Underplayed Songs You Need To Hear

Forget the songs you know them by, these are the ones that need more coverage.

Aside from the buzzsaw-riffage of Lords of Summer that debuted last year to resoundingly positive reviews, there's not been any new material from just the band since 2008's Death Magnetic - an album which itself was a return to the older, more thrash-like sensibilities they built their name on. With fans looking forward to what the new album is going to turn out like, it's important to look at the hidden gems that still exist in their back catalogue too. Although there are tens of thousands of diehard old-school fans who only want to hear 'Tallica kick out more songs that sound like 'the old stuff', there's also a great number of songs from albums fans like this might otherwise avoid, that are still worth their time. No, we're not going down the expected route of trudging St. Anger up again (even though it really does get too much hate), instead these are the songs that end up falling to the wayside whenever people are reminiscing on other certain albums. They might be something the band has never done before, either through genre, tonality, instrumentation, or just being incredibly intense lyrically, but either way, with a discography as varied as Metallica's, it's about time to shine some light on the best unsung heroes of their career.
