Nirvana: 15 Obscure Tracks You've Never Heard

Here we are now, entertain us.

When €œWith the Lights Out€ was released ten years ago the Nirvana vault was pretty much emptied, but much of the collection had been floating around online for years. Despite how thorough the release was, there are alternate versions of many of the songs included in the package out there; live cuts, alternate mixes, and so on. Not all the renditions that made the final package were the best ones, and not everything was actually included - but most of the best stuff was. If you haven't listened to the box set, or weren't the type of fan to trade in bootlegs and demo tapes when the band was at its peak, then you might have missed some of these gems. A few are diamonds in the rough, others are unpolished songs with potential, where the groundwork is there - you can hear, if you really give them a good listen, how they might have worked out as singles or solid album cuts with a little polish and production value. Nirvana will always have an air of "what if?" surrounding them due to Kurt Cobain's suicide at age twenty-seven. The band only had three official full length studio releases (Bleach, Nevermind, and In Utero), plus a collection of rarities (Incesticide) and an MTV Unplugged session. What if they'd finished off some of the tracks in full studio form? Would they have caught on? Been on a future album? And for those that were mixed and mastered, why have they remained some of the hardcore fans' favourite cuts after all these years? We€™ll take a look at the fifteen best obscure Nirvana tracks, and where necessary determine which versions are the best for your collection.
