Ranking All 9 Foo Fighters Studio Albums From Worst To Best

8. Sonic Highways (2014)

With only eight tracks to its name, Sonic Highways is hindered by being so short. The experimental nature of each track being recorded in a different city was an attempt to catch the essence of that city's musical history, and while exceptionally ambitious, ultimately it's not as effective as one might hope, leaving the album to feel a little disjointed, although the songs themselves are enjoyable.

While Grohl threw himself into the experiment, travelling around the USA and interviewing a range of people in the business, from musicians to recording engineers, the finished product is, unfortunately, not their best work.

The accompanying Making Of documentary is insightful, but when comparing the album to the rest of the Foo's discography, it has to fall to a low position. While nowhere near the disappointment and universally recognised low-point of 'One by One', this album has to rank below the rest.

Highlights include, 'Something From Nothing' and 'Congregation', which stand very strongly as singles, while not entirely creating a thematic or flowing album experience.

There isn't much more to be said, there's just a lot better to come.
