Sherlock: 10 Best Music Compositions

Stop watching it, and just listen. You'll deduce there's some beautiful music in the background.

While a great show must have good writing, talented actors, impeccable lighting, innovative visuals and so much more, the key to the tone of a show is the music. Music can be used to raise the tension in a thrilling action sequence or build the emotion within a dramatic reveal; it can set the viewer's blood pounding or reduce them to tears. In sum, the best shows have the best and most powerful music, and Sherlock is no exception. Courtesy of composers David Arnold (Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace, and Independence Day) and Michael Price (The Lord of the Rings trilogy), we have been treated to many a brilliant and gorgeous score through Sherlock's past three series. Its theme tune has become almost as recognisable as its idiosyncratic visual style, and the soundtrack for Series 3 may be its best and most inventive yet, with its foray into electronic music, dubstep, and even a bit of Spanish flair. So, without further ado, here is a look at the show's all-time best music pieces, from Series 1-3. SPOILERS ahead, as I will be talking about key plot points of the show in connection to the music.
