The Beatles: 14 Most Under-Appreciated Songs

12. Tell Me Why (A Hard Day's Night)

Here, we have a track from The Beatles' first film, an underrated classic in its own right. Tell Me Why stands out from hit singles like A Hard Day's Night or Can't Buy Me Love in that, on top of it being a great song falling by the wayside, its composition is very interesting.

The song is narrated by someone pleading with his lover to tell him what's wrong, yet the key and melody are upbeat and have an almost Motown doo-wop feel to it. To not nod your head along with the tune and sing along is almost impossible. Moreover, it makes you forget that it's actually something of a sad song in spite of its upbeat feel.

Tell Me Why is further accentuated by strong harmonies from Lennon and McCartney, with Harrison joining in on the chorus. It's short and sweet and shows that even sad songs can have a happy sound to them. Give it a listen, let loose, and enjoy.
