This Lynyrd Skynyrd cover was originally recorded in 1997 for a KSJO Radio acoustic session, to promote Neil Young's Bridge School Benefit gigs, which Metallica were to perform at for the first time.

They are joined on this track by an All Star backup band, featuring Les Claypool of Primus, Pepper Keenan of Corrosion & Conformity, Jerry Cantrell & Sean Kinney of Alice in Chains, Jim Martin of Faith No More and the Blues Traveler John Popper. The song was a radical departure from any cover song the band had ever put to tape before, utilising a variety of folk and blues instrumentation to enhance the Southern-fried flavour of the original track.

The esoteric choice of cover and presentation became a prevalent theme of the 1998 cover song recordings for Garage Inc, on which this track was released.
