Top 5 Pop Albums of 2012

5. Dragonette, Bodyparts

As a late convert to Dragonette (apart from global smash and Martin Solveig collaboration 'Hello', they've never been a huge commercial hit over here in the UK), it's astonishing how well their third album Bodyparts stands up compared to their more established and famous contemporaries, the album full of immensably catchy and relentlessly brilliant pop tunes from singer Martina Sobara, guitarist/producer Dan Kurtz and drummer Joel Stouffer. Lead single 'Live In This City' is a massive rush of electropop delight and one of the best singles of the year while tracks like 'Let It Go', 'My Legs' and 'Lay Low' keep the joyous feeling up, topped only by 'Riot', a frenetic dancefloor anthem that had Kylie recorded it, would have hit the No.1 spot with ease. The rarest kind of pop album - a thoroughly solid one - Bodyparts solidifies the band's strengths (they wrote and produced almost all the tracks) and status as purveyors of exceptionally good music, something we've all long since suspected and are glad has been confirmed.
